I took a well earned break after the 40 days blogging challenge. But today I’m back.
I showed you my ‘new’ bullet journal a while back, in a vlog, so it’s time for an update.
I decided to change up my lay out for June. I saw a monthly calendar wheel lay out on instagram and that rather spoke to me. I tried it out and liked it! I decided to stick with it for July too. I filled in the page before the monthly with my iPad made watercolor screen. I already blogged about those here.
No trackers or the like for June, because I lacked the time or I knew I would not keep track of them anyway. I simply reserved a page for memories and at the end of the month I filled it in with little photographs.
Somewhere in between I did add a page to keep track of all the things I need to get done before the baby comes. Rather important and I was shocked with how I put off many things for too long. Help! I really needed to get to work! When I was pregnant with Flavie, our bags were packed and her crib was ready from 25 weeks pregnancy, because there was a good chance she would arrive early. This time everything went so well it seemed there was no hurry 😉
I started June with a rather clumsy and messy lay out. I didn’t even start in the beginning of the month, whoops! My plan was to doodle more and try a new zentangle each day. But I didn’t really keep up with the doodling and I found the pages were too messy.
So I tried something completely different en decided to give weeklies another go. A week at a glance does come in handy… But I did not want to do it all measured out and clean. I wanted more… color and more doodle or creativity. So I went with ‘themed weeklies’. Weeklies within a certain theme. Don’t ask me why, but the idea just popped into my head.
I went looking for inspiration on pinterest and instagram and found my first theme very quickly: summer fruits. I went for a total challenge and tried to watercolor it. I have absolutely no experience with watercolors so I’m not a 100% happy with it, but I like it nonetheless! It’s such a welcome change! My Rhodia softcover notebook can handle the watercolors. The pages get warped a little, but I can live with that.
Somewhere there’s a page with a list of orders for our ‘end-of-the-schoolyear-barbecue’. To make sure I did not lose track of everyone’s orders. To prevent weakening my pages too much, I skipped a page here or there to spread out my watercolor weeklies. To fill these pages, I printed a quote or a drawing on a sticker page.
I was really digging this new weekly spread, so I went all out the next week. This time the theme was popsicles! Yes, perfect for the hot weather we were having at the time. I went looking for new tips and found this tutorial on pinterest. Mine are nowhere near as pretty but I still love how it turned out!
I got to be creative and it’s functional en fun to watch. Another succesful mission! The creases in the pages only came after I added a sticker page on the previous page. Stupid, I know!
And then, July had already arrived! Holiday time, whoohoo!
I ended June with a little Tombow brush pen watercolor, according to The Pigeon Letter’s technique. And after that I placed my iPad made July welcome page.
I added some lettering to the first page. Not that great but meh!
I made up a new calendar wheel, bigger this time, although I probably have less to add to it 😉
I did add trackers this time. Or sort of trackers. a ‘self care’ page, where I note one or two small things I do every day for myself. This makes sure I add soms me-time a day, even if it’s only 5 minutes. I got this idea from Kara at Boho Berry.
The next page holds a baby countdown and tracker. I drew in a geometric butterfly with 31 spaces. At the end of every day I color in the right space to count down to the new baby and to keep track of the baby’s movements. If I have felt her move sufficiently during the day, the space gets filled completely. Since our little girl is a busy bee, this has been no problem so far! I decided to go with rainbow colors and plain coloring pencils. I did not have a lot of baby stuff in my bujo, because I could not bring up the energy, so a simply thing like this seemed appropriate!
I added another memories page. I’ll see how I will do this one at the end of the month. Hopefully I can add a baby picture 😉
June’s last week was a busy and stressful one, so that first July weekend I had little to no inspiration and went for easy.
But the week after, I wanted to add another theme. That theme became: beach items! I looked for some simple doodles, made them my own and colored them with colored pencils. I’m also not a coloring whizz but I like the general idea of the page! Instant summer feeling.
A new week came sooooo quickly, but also brought more pregnancy discomforts and less energie. I found a picture on pinterest with lovely geometric arrow headers and decided to copy that shamelessly. But credits due where credits lie, I copied them from @nicoles.journal on instagram. Definitely go check out her account, she makes lovely things! Sadly I had already drawn out the weekly header. It doesn’t really fit, but hey, it’s all about embracing mistakes and everything, right?!
Monday evening I was so uncomfortable, I couldn’t sit or lie down and was bored as hell so I really had to do something creative. I got out my Tombow dual brush pens and practiced some brush lettering. At the sixth try, I was happy with the result and made a page with it. Too bad I wrote on an A4 page, not bujo size :-/. I think I will try scanning the image and then reprinting it on an A5 sticker paper, so I can add it to my bullet journal, after this week!
We’re halfway through this week right now and I’m already brainstorming about a new theme… I made a pinterest bord with inspiration for new themes. The solar system for example, or Star Wars characters have been crossing my mind! Who knows what a new week will bring… ?! 😉
